Hi Friends,

I recently started knitting socks :) A few months ago, a friend asked if I thought I would finish some socks, a lady had started years ago. I agreed to try and I started with the little needles & thin yarn. It was not too long before I said no way & packed them away. I had been getting back into my knitting and had not stored up enough patience yet lol.

I started this site and since then I have been trying so many new stitches and designs. I have been knitting and crochet for years ,but for a while I had no reason to get back to it:)

There is so much information out there now and with you tube and craft sites you can learn so many things.

I  joined a knitting group in January. I met the sock queen there lol. Anita loves to make knitted socks .I watched her teach classes in sock knitting and I said not for me : ) I watched different people making socks and I was getting more intrigued  lol. I just have to try new things and so I finally succumbed in June:) Socktacular

Anita & I went to one of her favourite yarn stores and we got some sock yarn  Schachenmayr Regia Design Line by Arne & Carlos .I chose Star Night which is pink ,blues and white. We went back to her house and she lent me some 2.25 circular needles and showed me how  to cast on with two circulars.

We used a pattern called Fingering weight Toe-Up Socks with Gusset and Slip Stitch Heel by Wendy D. Johnson.Once I got going it didn’t take much time to get to the heel :)

The yarn is wonderful, as you can just do plain knitting, and the yarn does the work :) It is fun watching the pattern appear as you go along. I started saying it was Socktacular :)

I followed the pattern, and with Anita’s help, I finished a pair of socks in under two weeks :)

I have since made two more pairs of striped yarn and I am hooked :)

I now have two types of socks on the go. One has a cable along each side and is toe-up  and the other one is a top down pair which is all rib. I needed to know both ways so I can tackle any sock pattern ,or so I was instructed 😉 and it is Socktacular :)

So that is the story of me getting into the world of sock knitting. My husband asks how many pairs of socks do I need? I said one for each day of the week but….. there are so many patterns & sock yarns out there there may be no end 😉

If you would like to order  a pair of hand knitted socks, please leave a comment or e mail wendy@smilesnpurls.com

Have a Socktacular day :)
